Miners use overtime to win consecutive games for the first time this season

How can you follow a two-overtime win at the buzzer that snapped a 12-game losing streak?

Just win again.

In a second Florida matchup in three days for the Miners, UTEP bested Florida Atlantic 66-65 in overtime at the Haskins Center -- coming away with consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Omega Harris led four Miners in double figures with 18 points, Matt Willms scored 16 (six rebounds), Paul Thomas put up 14 (eight rebounds), and Dominic Artis added 11 (five rebounds).

It was a contest that UTEP held a lead most of the way through. With a game-high lead of just nine points, the Miners kept up small advantages for nearly 38:40 of the 45 minutes as the teams tied nine times and experienced four lead changes.

FAU and UTEP played back and forth through the first nine minutes, leading to an 11-11 tie with 10:58 in the 1st.

The Miners then responded to the third tie by going on a 9-0 run through the next 2:15 that gave them their game-high lead.

After FAU cut their deficit to three (26-23) at halftime by limiting the Miners to just six points for the 1st half's final 8:43, the Owls played their way into another tie with 13:13 in the 2nd (34-34).

As the Miners continued to dominate the lead time with one- and two-possession advantages, the teams tied a fifth time with 4:29 on the clock and four more times within the final four minutes of regulation.

With a jumper from Omega Harris 14 seconds into overtime, UTEP took its final lead of the game -- getting up to an overtime high of eight (66-58) before FAU made a final attempt at the win by ending on a 7-0 run.
