UTEP signs pair of three-star guards

Tim Floyd announced Wednesday that Deon Barrett and Tim Cameron -- a pair of three-star guards from the 2016 class -- signed their national letters of intent to play for his program.

Barrett, a senior at Lancaster (Texas) High School, is a 5-10 point guard who helped lead his team to the Texas Class 5A Championship last season -- averaging 15.5 points, 6.8 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals per game.

"Deon is a really quick and shifty point guard," Floyd said. "He can really shoot the ball from the perimeter and has a great feel for running a team and getting his teammates easy baskets. We really like the fact that he has won at a high level..."

Cameron, a 6-4 shooting guard, currently attends Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy following his graduation from Norcross (Ga.) High School.

At Norcross HS, Cameron's team was the 2013 Georgia Class 6A Champion, reached the Final Four in 2014, and reached the Elite Eight in a 2015 season when Cameron averaged 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

"Tim brings elite athleticism to our program," coach Floyd said. "He has great size for a perimeter player and a non-stop motor. He comes from a strong program in Norcross High School in Georgia as well as a great post-grad program at Hargrave. Tim has a lot of intangibles and the ability to create his own shot."
