Will UTEP get another win anytime soon?

Can UTEP get another win anytime soon?

Houston Baptist isn’t even a gimme at this point ... FIU at home seems like a winner coming up in a couple weeks ... how about an upset in Ruston this weekend?

Ahhh ... don’t bet on it.

Pretty harsh, I know, but I have not seen any resemblance of the UTEP team that beat NMSU and hung around in the first half against Texas.

Most semi-knowledgeable fans knew the defense would struggle, but those same fans had no clue the offense would stink up the joint this badly. And it has to be said the defense would look a whole lot better if they got a little help from the other side of the ball.

The Texas loss was one everyone saw coming: no harm no foul.

Even Army could be chalked off to a bad day at the office -- and as any UTEP fans know, there have been plenty those for this football program over the years.

Southern Miss was the favorite, and the odds of a UTEP win were pretty low, but surely Coach Sean Kugler’s squad wasn’t going to get blown out again -- not in the Sun Bowl anyway.

Well ... we know how that played out.

Back to the basics.

Wasn’t that supposed to be the case against the Golden Eagles?

I’m not one of those fans that believes Kugler should be shown the door -- yet -- but things aren’t looking pretty for the Miners and something has to give.

The easy thing would be making a change at offensive coordinator -- and if the offense can’t find their footing, that is probably the next logical step.

A bowl game was on the table early on; even after the Army debacle, there was still hope they could notch six wins.

After last weekend’s home loss, the bowl talk is out the window as UTEP is just hoping to get back in the win column.

Can they turn it around?

Sure, anything is possible. However, based on recent results and heading out on the road (not UTEP’s forte by any means), who knows how the rest of the season turns out.

The Miners will most likely come back to El Paso at 1-4, but hopefully it’s a 1-4 record that UTEP can bounce back from -- not a 1-4 record following another demoralizing loss.

Remember Ruston.
