Vashon Brunswick chose not to announce it to the world right away, but he knew before he left campus last weekend that he would be a UTEP Miner.

After camping with the coaching staff and seeing the sights in the 915, he made the decision to lock in, picking UTEP over offers from Texas State, Colorado and Toledo.

“[It was] definitely just the hospitality that I was getting," said Brunswick of the onus behind his decision. "And just going through the drills in the camp with Coach [JJ] Clark, everything just — it just definitely was a place that felt like home. Coach [Scotty] Walden’s just a great guy. He’s somebody that the whole city can get behind. He just treated me like family.”

The stout Sachse product joins Copelin Windfont, Kane Bowen and Justin Lee in the Miners' linebacker class, with Royce Wilson also committed to play the Bandit position for UTEP.

“I see myself fitting right into the middle, playing mike ‘backer," Brunswick remarked. "I’m just bringing good defense in the middle — getting underneath routes, concepts that the offense will try to run, and stopping the run.”

Saturday was a banner day for Walden and the UTEP staff, as they picked up ten verbal commitments from visitors in the class of 2025. Eight of those pledges went public within 48 hours. And for Brunswick, witnessing the commitment contagion amongst his peers only solidified his confidence in picking the Miners.

“It definitely made me feel even better about my commitment, to see other guys feel the same way," he said. "If we can all lock in with each other, we can turn UTEP around. The country doesn’t know that this coaching staff and the 2025 class all have dawg mindsets, dawg mentalities.”
