Miners defeat Aggies 84-69 in second edition of Battle of I-10

EL PASO - Stefon Jackson scored 33 points en route to a 84-69 victory against New Mexico State at the Don Haskins Center.
UTEP guard Randy Culpepper, who was ejected from the game due to two technical fouls, scored 11 points in the first half.

Freshman guard Jason Jones played in place of the sophomore and recorded 8 points and 7 rebounds. Fellow freshman Arnett Moultrie scored 8 points and 6 rebounds.
NMSU's Hamidu Rahman, led his team in scoring with 19 points and chipped in five rebounds. The Aggies (5-5) had three players score in double figures.
The Miners (6-4) will take a break in between games before returning to action at the Cable Car Classic on Dec. 29 in Santa Clara, Calif.
UTEP will face James Madison at 9 p.m. MST and play either Belmont or host Santa Clara on Dec. 30.
Miner Notes
-After recording a career-high 11 assists, sophomore point guard Julyan Stone notched 12 assists against the NMSU Aggies. Stone's effort ties the fourth-best game total in school history.
-Five technical fouls were called during the second Battle of I-10 series.
-Jackson collected his ninth 30-point game against the Aggies, tying him with Nate Archibald and Antoine Gillespie for the second-best total in school history. Jim Barnes is the record-holder with sixteen 30-point games.
