Scotty Walden and the Miners have built a substantial lead in the Conference USA recruiting rankings in recent weeks, and they're closing the 2025 cycle with a flourish here on signing day.

In the last 24 hours, UTEP has added pledges from a pair of previously uncommitted targets in two-star OL Preston Perkins and two-star DB Josiah Jones. This morning, they pulled off a couple of flips that had been a long time coming, turning two-star Prague (Okla.) DE Jaxon Smith away from a commitment to Illinois State and unseating Rice for two-star Houstonian TE Jordan Andrus. The Miners also await a decision from junior-college wide receiver Isaiah Blair, who may represent commit No. 29 of the cycle for UTEP if he chooses to jump on board. He's fresh off an official visit to El Paso this past weekend.

The highest-rated signee for UTEP is three-star Tuttle (Okla.) WR C.J. Simon, a former Nebraska commit for whom the Miners made a late push. He received his offer in mid-November and gave the program his verbal on a Nov. 30 official visit.

Also of note is the Miners' exceptional backfield duo, as they landed two of the Lone Star State's most productive rushers in Elijah McCoy and Josh Bell. Both backs have a season of over 2,000 scrimmage yards on their respective high school resumes.

On the other side of the ball, the Miners' class is highlighted by three-star defensive backs Grant Stewart and TJ Tillman, the latter an erstwhile Texas Tech commit.

The centerpiece of the class, though, is two-star QB Chad Warner of Cibolo (Texas) Steele High School. A criminally underrated signal-caller with elite processing ability and accuracy at all three levels, he's been committed to UTEP since June, and should give Walden a talented trigger man to build around in the years to come.

UTEP is set to sign the No. 1 class in C-USA for the second straight year, a remarkable achievement for Walden and his staff in less than 365 days on the job. The Miners will now turn the bulk of their focus toward the portal to continue re-shaping the roster in an effort to improve upon the results of the 2024 campaign. UTEP started 0-6 under Walden, but closed the season with an encouraging 3-3 stretch, capped by a climactic rivalry win over New Mexico State in the Battle of I-10.
