Having recently reopened his recruitment after decommitting from Oklahoma State, three-star TE Isaiah Butler-Tanner is in search of a permanent collegiate home.
And as he prepares to make his final choice, UTEP is one of two schools that is a serious consideration for the Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker standout. Butler-Tanner was in the Sun City over the weekend for his official visit, and dished on the experience with Rivals.
“It was very fun," he remarked. "Coach Walden definitely had a lot of energy, along with Coach Dulaney. They just made me feel like it was home. There’s a lot of stuff in what they’re trying to build that seemed very good, and stuff that I would want in a program. It was very inviting, and it was very fun.”
Butler-Tanner got to witness a UTEP victory, in which the Miners donned throwback uniforms and rode a career day from quarterback Skyler Locklear en route to a double-OT triumph over Kennesaw State. And though the program is just 2-8 in Scotty Walden's first season at the helm, Butler-Tanner is a firm believer in what Walden and his staff are doing in the 915.
“I feel like they’re building the right people," he said. "I feel like right now, it’s gonna take a little while — maybe a class or two. And then once they have that class or two, I feel like they’re gonna be rolling. They’re gonna be a pretty [tough] team to stop. They just need some guys in certain positions.”
