UTEP continues to raid the transfer portal for more trench bodies on both sides of the ball, and after a successful OV, they’ve landed a major target on the offensive line in Tulane transfer RJ Whitehead.

The former two-star juco prospect recently entered the transfer portal after just one semester with the Green Wave, and MinerInsider had reported to members on Wednesday that he was scheduled to take an official visit to El Paso. At 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds, Whitehead hails from the state of Mississippi and most recently played for Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville. He chose Tulane last fall over offers from Temple, UAB, Tulsa, Troy and many others.

The Miner staff has kept all options open as they scour the portal market for help in the offensive trenches; they recently hosted junior-college transfer Trent Leicht and Cal transfer Martin Tine on official visits. They're also set to get a visit later this month from Tyler Brumfield, a high-upside juco tackle from the state of Utah. But in the here and now, Whitehead's addition provides stability — and relieves some of the pressure for UTEP to land Tine in particular, as the former Power 4 lineman is also strongly considering Texas State and Old Dominion.

Whitehead will have two years of eligibility remaining as a Miner.
